Abingdon A True Story

I hope to give you a flavour of life as a National Serviceman during 1957 to 1959 when I was fortunate to be with 2 Great Regiments, REME Airborne and Parachute Regiment. I was looking round the web and found several sites with details about both RNAS Culham and also RAF Abingdon, both now sadly defunct as Airfields, but they were good places to stay and I have happy memories of them. I decided to dig out and share my photo's and memories !! Most training jumps were done at Weston on the Green Airfield. Please take time to add your name to the visitors book if you have any personal memories of either Culham or RAF Abingdon.
If you have any photographs to add to the site, please send them to me. Credit will be given to anybody who can help to make this site of interest to all who went through PCAU Abingdon

Mass Drop - what it is all about
Mass drop, note the troops are using kit containers, these hung about 20ft below you, released after you had exited the plane

Remember this view ?
You will if you did the Army Parachute selection Course at Aldershot!
This is what sorted you out !!
Well, .... one of the things !! .... assault course, milling, Tank training ground marathon's, and other ways of finding out how daft you were !

This is a nice BIG climbing frame.
All you had to do was climb and jump all over it, finally reaching the top, where you had to walk along the 2 very TOP bars, stop in the middle and SHOUT your name rank and number .. SIR !!! If they felt nasty, a clamp was put halfway over, so you had to lift a foot over it
